The first Indogreen Forestry Expo was organized by the Ministry of Forestry, 14-17 April 2009, at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). The Expo is the product of the cooperation between the Forestry Information Centre (Pusat Informasi Kehutanan), Secretariat General, Ministry of Forestry with PT. Wahyu Promo Citra.
In his remarks, Minister of Forestry MS Kaban said that there are already 5 million ha critical forest land that have been reclaimed from 2003 to 2008. "I hope, in 2015, our forests will be healthy again," he expressed his hope.
Some of the highlights included among others exhibitions in 54 booths, distribution of hundreds of trees among visitors, drawing competition for high school students, and talk shows. The exhibition was opened by Minister of Forestry with a catchy theme: “Save The Forest, Save The World” and was attended by government officials, private sector, NGOs, Academicians, individuals and press. The stakeholders were related to the sustainability efforts of the forest.
EC-Indonesia FLEGT Support Project took part in the event that is planned to be an annual agenda of the Ministry. Also co-participating in the EC-Indonesia FLEGT Support Project booth, other European Union’s projects namely Orangutan Foundation, with Yayasan Orangutan Indonesia, and ICRAF.
Meanwhile, local and central government institutions also participated. They were the representatives from Provincial and Municipal Forestry Offices, Province dan District Governments, Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Energy and Natural Reources, and of course, Ministry of Forestry. A number of private companies who work in the forestry sector also participated such as PT. Musi Hutan Persada and PT. Sinar Mas Group. Mining companies, , Forum Reklamasi Tambang, and forestry State Owned Enterprises also participated as well as PT. REKI, PT. PLN.
During the four-day exhibition, EC-Indonesia FLEGT Support Project’s joint booth had been visited by more than 1,350 visitors — who signed the guest books — from students to business people and general public. They had come to ask for information on the activities of EC-Indonesia FLEGT Support Project and other European Union’s forestry related projects.
On the last day of the exibition, Project Director of EC-Indonesia FLEGT Support Project, Mr. Ratman Tasmin, was invited and participated as resource person in the final talk show titled ‘Real Efforts to Preventing Deforestation’ with representatives from Central Java Government and Perhutani. The talkshow attracted many people followed by a lively Question and Answer session.
